Obituary for Alvin Shaver

Mr. Alvin (Ab) Lynnwood Shaver, 72, of Dayton Mountain died Thursday at home from prostate cancer. He was retired from TVA and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Pikeville, Tennessee. He owned and operated Shaver Construction and Shaver Trucking Company. He served on the Bledsoe County School Board from 1976-1980 and as Bledsoe County Road Supervisor from 1982-1990. He loved working his farm, cattle, and garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Leland and Katholeen Shaver; two brothers, Dean and Jimmie Shaver and one sister-in-law, Mary Shaver and one brother-in-law, Earle Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Reynolds Shaver; his three daughters, Vicky (Daryll) Kelly of Pikeville, Beth (Lynn) Hixson, and Lisa (Abe) Rackley of Dayton; and one son, Phil (Bernice) Shaver of Pikeville; his grandchildren, Brent and Scarlet Measles, Chad and Casey Shaver, Ashley Hixson, Kenny and Rachel martin, Ransom Kelly, Chase Shaver, Darra Kelly, Laurabeth Hixson, Allyssa and Breanne Rackley; his great-grandchildren, Tyler Young, Tate and Tucker Shaver. He is also survived by three brothers, Ray, Ed (Mary Nell), Lynn (Linda Jane) of Dayton and two sisters, Orah Fay (Bill) Bishop of Murietta, CA. and Linda Lou (Elmer) Hinds of Dayton, and one brother-in-law, Wayne (Martha Lou) Reynolds of Dunlap, three sisters-in-law, Norma Murphy of Cleveland, Doris and Phyllis Shaver of Dayton; two aunts, Jenny Swearingen of Chattanooga and Tina Woollen of Dayton, one uncle, Harvey Woollen of Palm Bay, FL. HE is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home at 2:00 pm CST Sunday February 22, 2009 with Rev. Bill Roberts and Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will be in Shaver Cemetery followed by a white dove release. The pallbearers will be his nephews. The family will receive friends from 12-7 pm CST Saturday. In lieu of flowers please make donations to United Leukodystrophy Foundation, Hunter'™s Hope or Prostate Cancer Foundation.
