Obituary for Curtis Essex

Curtis Essex, 86 of Pikeville, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home. He was born to the late Lawrence Franklin and Addie Bell Bryant Essex on September 22, 1930. He served in the United States Navy for twenty years and also served ten years in the National Guard. Curtis earned the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Ribbon, Bronze Star, Republic of Viet-Nam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal during his service. After his retirement from the service, he enjoyed gardening and communicating by way of his ham radio.
Preceding Curtis in death other than his parents was his wife, Norma Essex; son Curtis Ray Essex.
Left to cherish Curtis’ memories is his wife, Ruth Frady Essex, Pikeville; two sons, Michael Earl (Donna) Essex, Nashville and Steven Wayne (Wendy) Essex, Gatlinburg; grandson, Timothy Earl Essex, Florida; granddaughter, Callie Rey, Arkansas; sister, Cora Matlock, Winchester; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm CST Thursday in the funeral home chapel with full military honors. Bro. Wayne Graves will be officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 am until service time Thursday. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery Friday.
