Obituary for Janet Louise Barkley
Janet Louise Barkley, daughter of the late Frank Ferdinand Zykan and Freda Graff Zykan was born on February 2, 1936 in St. Charles, MO. She was the fiftenth child of seventeen children. She was a homemaker and of Baptist faith.
At the age of seventeen she was swept off of her feet by Harold Barkley, they were married on December 12, 1954 in Mexico. Together they built a life and had many adventures that she enjoyed sharing. They lived in California right by the ocean, Florida, and Pennsylvania where they raised their family of six. She was a hard worker and held several different jobs thru the years but the most important was mother and wife. Janet was a devoted mom to her children, always making sure they were well taken care of and raised with morals and good values. She lived by her words and was an example to her children of what a mother and wife should be. She had a heart of gold and would give you whatever she had. One of her greatest blessing was her family and spending time with them.
Janet was raised of Catholic faith but later on in life was saved and a dedicated member of Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church and the ladies’ meetings. One of her favorite things to do was play bingo, she could play multiple cards at one time. She enjoyed dancing and listening to music, especially Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, and Elvis.
She was preceded in death by Harold Barkley her husband of fifty-six years; parents Frank and Freda Graff Zykan; step- son, Ed Barkley; grandson, Dalton Barkley; fourteen siblings.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her children: Jess (Judy) Barkley PA, Tex Barkley TX, Cheyenne Barkley FL, Greg (Kim) Barkley TN, Bridget (Richard) Dishman TN, Sarah (John) Williams FL. Sister Clara Ward FL, Brother Mike Zykan MO and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life and final resting place was held at Union Baptist Cemetery, Newberry Fl. on Friday, October 5, 2018.
