Obituary for Julia Gerren Murray

Julia Mae “Judy” (Gerren) Murray, 92, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 27, 2022.

Judy was born June 28, 1929 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to John M. and Nina (Weaver) Gerren. Her family spent summers in Pikeville and Gerren Heights on Dayton Mountain. They spent winter months in Florida where she met her husband Bill Murray Jr. in 1948. Married in 1950, Judy and Bill lived in Miami, Florida for 40 years where she taught elementary school. Judy loved art and in her spare time made pottery, painted in oil and hooked wool rugs.

In 1990 Judy and Bill moved back to Gerren Heights where she will be laid to rest next to her husband who preceded her in death in 1993. They were both preceded in death by their eldest child Elizabeth Colleen Thompson, her parents, brother John Milton Gerren Jr. and sister Geraldine “Jeddy” Gunn.

She is survived by three children Kathleen (Martin) Barlow, Priscilla (Robert) Powell and Bill (Cassia) Murray III; seven grandchildren, Hestia (Scott) Hamilton, Kathryn (Derek) Kneebone, William S. “Liam” Murray IV, Shannon (Mark) Derby, Dwayne (Pam) Powell, Ivy (Jenna) Broneman, and Martie Barlow; ten great-grandchildren, Ryan Kneebone, Jenna Hamilton, Leah Hamilton, Courtney Hamilton, Kristine Hamilton (Justin Potter), Connor Derby, Brenden Derby, Ansley Derby, Van and Veda Broneman; four great-great-grandchildren, Stella Hamilton, Jaxson Potter, Aria Potter and Lily Potter; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

She will be missed by all, but we will see her again.

A celebration of life will be 2:00pm CST Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in the Pikeville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doyle Ashburn officiating. Burial will be in Gerren Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00 am until service time. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Operation Christmas Child www.samaritanpurse.org. Condolences may be sent to Priscilla Powell 22151 SW 149 AVE. Miami, FL 33170. Pikeville Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
