Obituary for Margaret " Maggie" Roberts - Collier

Margaret Love Roberts-Collier, 81 of Pikeville, formerly of Signal Mountain passed away Tuesday August 30, 2011. Maggie as she was affectionately called was born to the late Homer and Edna Holt, September 17, 1929 in McRoberts, KY. She graduated from Bledsoe County High School in 1948 and then went on to receive her BA in Business from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute of Cookeville in 1952. Upon graduating from college she was employed with TVA where she remained for 37 years as a Nuclear Administrative Engineer until her retirement in 1989. It was during this time that she met her first husband, Howard F. Roberts of Chattanooga in 1955. She was a devoted wife and mother of 3. Howard passed away in April 1975. She resided on Signal Mountain for 34 years until 1990. It was then that the second chapter of her life began. She met Glenn Collier and they were married in May 1990. They moved back to the valley of Bledsoe County where they both were originally from and built a home which they shared until Glenn'™s death in 2002. Maggie enjoyed cooking for friends and family, gardening, reading, and was a strong Republican party supporter in the community. She was also very strong in her Christian faith as a member of the Bethel Church of Christ. She considered her church members her second family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Holt; sisters, Juanita Bates and Dorothy Sullivan. Maggie is survived by her 3 children, Steven H. (Sherri) Roberts; Marcia Barrett; both of Chattanooga, TN., and Beth (Kevin) Gheen of Knoxville, TN., grandchildren, Katie and Stephanie Barrett; great-grandchild, Jonathan Driscoll, niece, Joyce Hitchcox and nephew Jay Sullivan, both of Pikeville, TN. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew her and loved her.
