Thelma Jean Matney, age 78 of Pikeville, died October 15, 2020 at home with family by her side. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading her Bible, and was of the Church of God faith. Thelma enjoyed preaching at different Church of Gods in our surrounding counties and was the cook at Campbell’s Restaurant for twenty-three years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Thelma in death was her husband, Thomas Harvey Matney; parents, Marvin and Nancy Whittenburg Givens; sister, Hazel Parker; brothers, Buster and Jimmy Givens; great-grandchild, Emmalyn Blaic Long.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Crystal (Daniel) Schmidt, Joy (Leon) Presley, Charity (Scott) McCloud; son, Thomas Corey (Kim) Matney; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; sister, Clemma Trussell; brother, Taylor Givens; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be12:00 pm CDT Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Pikeville Church of God with Bro. James Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Collier Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm-8:00 pm CDT Friday, October 16, 2020 at Pikeville Church of God.
