Obituary for William Stanley Brown

William Stanley Brown, age 88 of the Brayton Community, died, Friday, August 9, 2019. Stanley was an Army Veteran serving in the Corp of Engineers during the Korean War for four years. During that time he earned two Bronze Stars, U.N. Service medal, National Defense medal, and Army Good Conduct Medal. He was a coal miner and worked as a carpenter building houses for many years. Stanley enjoyed watching the Braves, Tennessee football, and was avid vegetable gardener.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe McClure and Emma Aurora Bowman Brown; wife, Thelma Ruth Frazier Brown; son, William Edward Brown; brothers, Raymond, Bobby Joe, Freeman, Carl, and Wayne Brown.
Stanley will be dearly missed by his daughters, Cindy (Mark) Russell, Brayton, Sandra Hitchcox, Dayton; sons, Stanley George “Buster” Brown, Chattanooga, John Haze (Christy) Brown, Dayton; brother, Winfred (Patsy) Brown, Brayton; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A celebration of life will be at 2:00 pm CDT Sunday, August 11, 2019 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dennis McChargue officiating. Burial will be in Brayton Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00-8:00 pm Saturday, August 10, 2019. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Pikeville Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
