Obituary for Velma Simmons Holland

Velma Simmons Holland, 85 of Pikeville passed away May 28, 2012 at her home. She was a member of the Pikeville Church of God. She was a seamstress by trade, but loved to quilt and sew, and bake pies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Holland, parents, Napolean and Rachel Simmons, brother, Chester Simmons, and sisters, Lena Agee, Angie Blankenship, Martha Lou DeBord, and Ida Milan. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Carol) Holland of Pikeville, daughters, Joyce (Wendell) Hughes of Pikeville, and Imogene (Harold) Hendrick of Dayton, grandchildren, Tonya Sorrow, Amy (Preston) Hale, Heather (David) Blair, Josh (Angie) Holland, and Matt (Cheryl) Hendrick, great-grandchildren, Faith and Ethan Hale, Emily Sorrow, Haven, Render, and Ever Blair, Lily Phillips, and Flora Holland, brother, N.C. Simmons, sisters, Clara Mooneyham, Thelma Simmons, and Juanita Reed. A Celebration of Velma'™s life will be held in the sanctuary of the Pikeville Church of God on Wednesday May 30th 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. James Dunn and Bro. Kenneth Norris officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Pikeville City Cemetery.
